TITLE:                                      CONSTRUCTION DESIGN DRAFTSMAN

ORGANIZATION UNIT: Power Operations Services

 

APPLICABLE TO:                  City and County

 

DUTIES:

 

Under indirect and intermittent supervision, to perform responsible work requiring ability to take independent action and make decisions, in preparing basic sketches, making calculations and formulating the designs for construction and rehabilitation projects for steam, CTG and hydro power plants; and to do related work as required. In this connection to perform details of work, such as:

 

Make basic studies and preliminary designs of projects requiring calculations or independent investigation.

 

Make general arrangement, layout drawings and electrical diagrams on which no definite design has been established other than the basic engineering, and for which information may be supplied in the form of sketches, specifications or verbal instructions.

 

Check preliminary layouts and finished drawings made by other employees.

 

Check manufacturers' prints for conformity to design.

 

Obtain field information as required, and incidentally operate Company automobile.

 

SPECIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

For care to prevent errors in field measurements taken by him/her or under his/her direction.

 

For the soundness and practicability of his/her designs, and for the accuracy and conformity to standards of the drawings he/she checks.

 

For the safety of those assisting in making investigations or taking field measurements. For holding as confidential advance information concerning construction projects. CONTACTS:

CONSTRUCTION DESIGN DRAFTSMAN (Continued) WORKING CONDITIONS:

 

When on field trips or assigned to a plant, subject to usual conditions existing in power plants, substations and other buildings, and subject to outdoor weather conditions.

 

HAZARDS:

 

When on field trips or assigned to a plant, subject to traffic hazards while driving Company automobile, and to those hazards incidental to visiting construction projects, power plants, substations and other buildings.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Graduation from high school or the equivalent.

 

Three years as a Senior Construction Draftsman and Associate's Degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or engineering technology, with at least two advanced courses in CAD. The degree must be in the field of electrical, mechanical or structural engineering or technology in the discipline the employee selected.
