TITLE: CLERK-STENOGRAPHER ORGANIZATION UNIT: General Class

 

APPLICABLE TO: All Divisions DUTIES:

 

Under direct but not constant supervision to do clerical, steno­graphic and word processing work of some difficulty requiring the exercise of limited judgment and responsibility and in accordance with standard practices and procedures of the Company; to do typing; to transcribe, format and enter letters, reports, specifications, etc. on word processing equipment; and to perform related work as assigned. In this connection to perform details of work, such as:

 

Type letters, memoranda, reports, records, statements, schedules, various forms, lists, cards, notices or vouchers; check and proofread typed. copy for correct­ness and completeness and make corrections; prepare tabulations of data relating to departmental work and summarize in prescribed report form; make computations of a simple nature; type and send prescribed form letters for Company action or in answer to routine in­quiries; transcribe on a typewriter dictated material either from shorthand notes or from dictating machine cylinders; receive and relay telephone inquiries and direct callers; sort, index, and file correspondence, memoranda, reports, forms, stencils, cards, folders; sort and distribute mail; and occasionally, cut dupli­cating stencils.

 

SPECIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

For care in use of typewriter, adding machine, calculating machine, word processing equipment, and other office appliances.

 

For holding as confidential information obtained in connection with dictation or copy typing and relating to Company business and per­sonnel.

 

CONTACTS:

 

Personal or telephone contacts with persons of all types and levels when receiving telephone inquiries or directing callers.

 

Personal or telephone contacts with employees in other departments for the exchange of information.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Graduation from high school or the equivalent, inclur9ing or supple­mented by a course in typing and shorthand.

CLERK-STENOGRAPHER (continued) QUALIFICATIONS: (Cont' d.)

Experience of one year as Junior Clerk-Stenorraoher_ or two years' experience outside the Company in a Stenographic capacity.

Ability to take shorthand and operate typewriter with reasonable speed and accuracy, should be pleasant, courteous and tactful.
